Film Threat

by Alan Ng

“The comedy is broad, and the couples are over-the-top, but the film is working toward something more deliberate than a few easy jokes.”

Writer-director Zanah Thirus takes on one of the most talked-about and least-acted-upon subjects in modern relationships with The OG Bootcamp — what happens when women decide they’re done pretending everything is fine…particularly their orgasm. What follows is a story about four very different couples forced to sit down, face the music, and finally have the conversation their partners have been putting off for far too long…

The bootcamp kicks off with a vulva pleasuring workshop that sends shockwaves through the room before the morning is even over. Session by session, the walls come down as the couples are forced to reckon with the gap between what the men believe they’re delivering and what their partners have been silently enduring. What starts as an experiment becomes something more personal, more raw, and harder to walk away from. By the end of the day, the study is over — but the conversations it started are just getting going…

On the surface, The OG Bootcamp looks like a raunchy comedy built around an orgasm bootcamp. And for a while, it plays that way. But somewhere along the line, the laughs take a back seat, and the film becomes exactly what its title promises — an actual bootcamp about the female orgasm. The language is explicit, and the conversations are frank. The comedy is broad, and the couples are over-the-top, but the film is working toward something more deliberate than a few easy jokes…

If the right people are paying attention — and they know who they are — it might just spark a few overdue conversations at home.

The OG Bootcamp cast: Every character featured in the comedy drama film and the actors behind them

In The OG Bootcamp, an aspiring sexologist gets completely sick of the orgasm gap and decides to actually do something about it. She gets four of those victimized women and hatches a plan to get their husbands to this meeting. They plot a quick and effective plan, letting the husbands think that they are going on a relaxed trip for the weekend…

The whole film is shot like a mockumentary, which honestly makes it way funnier. You literally watch all these super awkward encounters and totally embarrassing private interviews. It feels incredibly genuine because the cameras easily catch those annoying little hidden grudges that married couples usually sweep right under the rug.

By the time it ends, this bizarre experiment actually forces everyone to look way beyond the purely physical stuff. The couples slowly start remembering how to properly talk to one another again. Ultimately, it leaves you with this surprisingly sweet reminder that genuine effort can totally save any failing marriage.

Indie Film Review “The OG Bootcamp”
It’s what’s amidst, and amiss with, four couples who need a little re-awakening and refresher course about the “S” word

It’s bold, it’s bawdy, it’s blunt, it’s unflinching, it’s unapologetic, it’s factually-based sex education for the modern age done in uncompromising mockumentary fashion, assured to either be wholeheartedly uncomfortable or undeniably entertaining (most likely a combination of both!) if you’re being one hundred percent honest with yourself!…

However, while there is no circumnavigating the sheer fact that certain instances content-wise which arise in this film were more than a little beyond my usual comfort zones to appreciate or accept personally, I found myself laughing more and more as the film progresses, and THAT truly IS the intention the effort strives to promote, simply choosing to do so through quite CANDID means… to say the least, it’s an absolute riot to witness what shenanigans unfold and to what precise lengths things are taken to to allow for the results being sought after to be attained…

Mind you, folks, this IS raw, graphic stuff, primarily verbally, but not remotely without several visually present moments and imagery that COULD be awkward for some. But here’s the thing…it’s all legitimate knowledge being conveyed WHILE making it hysterical to witness and RELEVANT to absorb! Because regardless of what you might think about a film’s entire cornerstone theme being about sexuality, its joys, trials, and frustrations, there are actual LIFE lessons being taught!..

It’s a brilliant comedic performance that just sings with jocularity and exudes chaotic but controlled energy throughout. Timing and delivery are everything when it comes to comedy, and [Giovonnie)] Samuels clearly illustrates a mastery of it as well as some genuine dramatic flair as well… [Kimberly Michelle] Vaughn is just genius at remaining so SERIOUS about it, coming across with a superb teacher-like vibe that sells you on her character with NO problem at all, while being so charming, down-to-earth, and just plain FUN!..

Sylvia Wynn becomes yet ANOTHER scene stealer here through her role as Trill, a second expert brought to bear whose drill-instructor style in itself is a HOOT to watch, eliciting a LOT of laughs as she berates and challenges the MEN to be WAY more exposed in a certain way than they would EVER feel normal or confortable doing! It’s simply awesome, and Wynn likewise OWNS her scenes with jovial glee…

So, in total, “The OG Bootcamp” is an exercise in sex, the pitfalls we get into with it, the mistakes we make in not sharing or communicating about it with our better halves, and re-discovering the pleasure it offers, all wrapped in an incontrovertibly rollicking yet illuminating shell that, frankly, we could all actually learn something from. Therefore, TALK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, and perhaps most imperatively, ENJOY IT while you do. Right?

Take 2 Indie Review

CLASS IS IN SESSION...

What would you do if your significant other asked you to attend a day-long bootcamp to address the orgasm gap, a trend in heterosexual relationships where men experience orgasms at a far higher rate than their female partners? Odds are, you’d be just as confused as the characters in The OG Bootcamp, a delightfully fun mockumentary exploring the humorous, confusing, but ultimately introspective world of sexual dissatisfaction in married couples…

The energetic mockumentary is driven by the eccentric, bubbly, and delightful performance from Samuels. Even if we were to just watch her bounce around the walls for 90 minutes, the performance is so lively and unpredictable that we’d still have fun. Zoe’s unflinching passion to help her friends take on their sexual insecurities is the driving engine behind the film’s central spirit: A humorous, but ultimately human, look at sex… In this vein, the cast so thoroughly embraces their roles that we often forget we’re watching a work of fiction, elevating the mockumentary format beyond just a simple gimmick…

In poking fun at the husbands’ incompetence, and the wives’ efforts to not completely lose their minds at them, The OG Bootcamp provokes a thoughtful discussion about gender roles in heterosexual relationships. It proposes that failure in relationships lies not in a lack of sexual competency, but in a lack of making an effort to grow and learn. As Luke points out late in the film, we often know so much about our significant other’s identity, but so little about their sexual preferences. The OG Bootcamp proposes it’s never too late to start trying, to realize we can always learn more about the people we love the most.

The OG Bootcamp – Honest, Awkward and Surprisingly Insightful

There’s something immediately attention-grabbing about The OG Bootcamp. On paper, a mockumentary centred around long-term relationships and sexual communication might sound like a niche concept, but writer-director Zanah Thirus manages to turn it into something both entertaining and surprisingly relatable.

The film opens with a tongue-in-cheek nature documentary parody, complete with a voiceover reminiscent of a David Attenborough-style introduction, framing human sexuality as if it were part of the animal kingdom. It’s a playful way to ease audiences into what could otherwise be an uncomfortable subject, and it sets the tone nicely for what follows…

What The OG Bootcamp does well is balance humour with its more serious themes. There are plenty of awkward moments and comedic scenarios – including some of the more unusual “exercises” the participants are asked to take part in – but the film doesn’t rely solely on shock value. Instead, it uses humour as a gateway into broader conversations about communication, expectations, and emotional disconnect within relationships…

Ultimately, The OG Bootcamp is a film that succeeds by being both entertaining and thoughtful. It tackles a subject many shy away from, but does so with humour, honesty, and a surprising amount of heart. It’s the kind of film that will likely spark conversation long after the credits roll – just perhaps not one you’d rush to watch with your parents.

The OG Bootcamp Review: A Meaningful Piece of Social Commentary!

The OG Bootcamp is one of those concepts that instantly grabs your attention, not just because of its bold premise, but because of how relatable it feels beneath all the humor. Framed as a mockumentary, the film dives into the often-avoided conversation around sexual satisfaction in long-term relationships, particularly the imbalance between men and women…

What really works here is the film’s premise and how confidently it leans into it. It’s informative, thoughtful, and genuinely funny without ever feeling preachy…

Overall, The OG Bootcamp succeeds as both an entertaining mockumentary and a meaningful piece of social commentary. It tackles a sensitive topic with humor, honesty, and a surprising amount of heart. More importantly, it opens up a conversation that many people shy away from, making it not just an enjoyable watch, but also a relevant one. It’s the kind of film that makes you laugh, reflect, and maybe even rethink how communication plays a role in relationships, both inside and outside the bedroom.

Movie Review: ‘The OG Bootcamp’ – Laughing Through Honest Conversation Beyond the Bedroom

There is something interestingly bold about a film like ‘The OG Bootcamp’, its intent and how it was approached and delivered.

On the surface, it sells itself on a premise that feels cheeky or even provocative to some. Meanwhile, it’s a creatively executed narrative about a group of husbands ambushed into attending a sex education bootcamp designed to address the long-standing imbalance in sexual satisfaction within heterosexual relationships…

What immediately works in the film’s favour is how watchable it is. It is entertaining in a very effortless way. You find yourself laughing often, sometimes at the awkwardness, sometimes at the honesty, and sometimes at how painfully familiar certain situations feel…

By the time it ends, you’re left with more than just a few laughs. You’re left thinking about communication, about connection, and about the subtle ways relationships can drift if left unattended. And perhaps that’s the film’s greatest strength. It doesn’t force a conversation; it simply opens the door and lets you walk into it at your own pace.

Giovonnie Samuels' First Lead Film Role Is A Project Tackling The Female Orgasm

Icon from the childhoods of millennials, Giovonnie Samuels (alum of All That and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody), can be seen soon in her first leading role in a film.

Orgasms can be complicated, especially for women participating in heterosexual sex. For more than two decades, researches have found blaring orgasm gaps between men and women. Some studies say its biological, while others say it all comes down o the role emotions play in sexual pleasure for women.

Filmmaker Zanah Thirus tackles these theories, and what really continues to widen the orgasm gap between men and women participating in heterosexual sex, in her upcoming feature film, The OG Bootcamp.
